Moving Ahead

The 2011 ASFA Convention was held in Decatur, AL, September 9-11.  At the conclusion of the convention, a new Board was installed and ready to move ahead with work to do everything in their power to continue to build and improve the Association and the flower industry in the State of Alabama.

You can find our newly installed Board members by clicking on the link in the menu above.

Members in attendance voted to approve a bylaw change that refined the definitions of voting members and associate members of the ASFA.  Effective immediately, voting membership privileges are now available to Event and Wedding designers who meet all qualifications (see the Membership page for information) and Associate membership is available for any freelance florist.

The ASFA Board of Directors promises to remember its history but it is also looking toward the future with hopes of prosperity and success for our members by offering the very best educational opportunities possible.   News will be forthcoming soon about upcoming events for 2012!

Condolences to the Orr Family

Mike Orr, son of Barbara Orr, owner of Continental Florist and the ASFA 2010 Lifetime Member Award recipient, passed away today.  Our most sincere condolences and prayers go out to Barbara and family during this most difficult time.  Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Designer Change

Susan Ayala was scheduled to be one of our featured designers at the convention, however, she has been called out of the country at that time. Teleflora has graciously provided the talents of John Hosek, AIFD, CFD, PFCI, to to replace her with a wonderful program. Please read John’s bio here and don’t miss this part of a full weekend of floral education and fun at the 2011 ASFA Convention!

Congrats Kim!

Kim Nelson, owner of Kimberly Nelson Floral Designs in Phenix City, was recently notified that she passed her AIFD testing and has been accepted as a member of the American Institute of Floral Designers.  Congrats Kim on achieving this goal…all your hard work paid off!
